CSSR Open Webinar Series 2026- Verena Nikeleit

August 28 @ 09:00 - 10:00

🔬 CSSR Open Webinar Series | 28 August 2026

Hydrogen is expected to play an important role in the energy transition, but what happens when it is stored underground and becomes available to naturally occurring microorganisms? Could microbial activity lead to hydrogen loss, production of toxic gases and what interactions do occur between microbes and the minerals of the reservoir?

Join us for the next webinar in the CSSR Open Webinar Series, where Verena Nikeleit (NORCE Research) will present research on how microbial communities and reservoir minerals influence hydrogen consumption in subsurface storage environments.

The webinar will explore:
How reservoir minerals such as pyrite, siderite, kaolinite, gypsum, quartz, and calcite affect the activity of Hydrogen consuming microbes
Potential impacts on underground hydrogen storage operations, including mineral dissolution and precipitation.

🎤 Speaker: Verena Nikeleit, NORCE
📅 Date: 28 August 2026
⏰ Time: 09:00-10:00 CEST

Verena Nikeleit is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Subsurface Energy Solutions group at NORCE and works on the MOCHyS project, focusing on microbial processes and challenges related to underground hydrogen storage.
